Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about SFCT's therapies, counselling, and certification programmes.

Therapies

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Is Clinical Hypnotherapy safe?
When provided by a trained therapist, hypnotherapy is generally considered a safe complementary approach, and harmful reactions are rare. You remain aware and in control throughout a session — it is not mind control, and nothing happens without your cooperation. People with a severe mental illness should discuss this with SFCT and their own treating clinician before beginning.
Will Clinical Hypnotherapy replace my other treatment or medication?
No. SFCT offers Clinical Hypnotherapy as a complementary approach alongside — never as a replacement for — medical or psychiatric care. If you are currently receiving treatment for a diagnosed condition, please continue it and discuss hypnotherapy with your treating clinician first.
Will I lose control during hypnotherapy, like I have seen in stage hypnosis shows?
No. Clinical hypnotherapy is different from stage or entertainment hypnosis. Contrary to what stage acts or films suggest, you do not lose control over your behaviour during hypnosis — you usually remain aware throughout a session and remember what happened afterward. A trained therapist guides the process; nothing happens without your cooperation.

Art Therapy

Do I need to be good at art to benefit from this?
No — Art Therapy doesn't require any artistic skill or experience. The value is in the process, not the finished result.
Is Art Therapy only for children?
No. While it's often used with children who find it hard to express themselves verbally, adults use it too — particularly for grief, stress, or working through a difficult period.

Music Therapy

Do I need to be musical to benefit from Music Therapy?
No — you don't need any musical background. Sessions are built around what works for you, whether that's listening, singing, or playing.
Is Music Therapy the same as just listening to music I enjoy?
Not quite — it's guided by a trained therapist toward a specific goal, which is different from music as everyday enjoyment, though both can be valuable in their own way.

Bio-Neuro Feedback

Is biofeedback safe?
Generally, yes, when provided by a trained practitioner — but it isn't right for everyone. People with certain heart-rhythm or skin conditions should check with SFCT and their own doctor first.
Will biofeedback replace my medication?
No. SFCT offers biofeedback as a complementary approach alongside — never a replacement for — any medical treatment. Please continue any prescribed treatment and discuss biofeedback with your treating clinician first.

Foot Reflexology

Can Foot Reflexology treat a medical condition?
No. It's offered as a relaxation-focused complementary therapy, not a treatment for any medical condition, and it isn't a substitute for medical care.
Is there scientific evidence behind Foot Reflexology?
The evidence is limited. Some small studies suggest possible benefit for specific symptoms in specific conditions, but the overall claimed mechanism hasn't been scientifically proven, and this page is deliberately written not to overstate what the research shows.

Tibetan Singing Bowl Therapy

Does Tibetan Singing Bowl Therapy have a proven medical effect?
No specific medical effect is claimed. It's offered as a relaxation practice, in the same spirit as other calming or meditative approaches.

Counselling

Child, Teen & Parenting Counselling

Is this counselling just for my child, or can I be involved too?
SFCT's counselling supports children, teens, and parents — sessions can focus on the young person, the parent, or both, depending on what's needed.

Grief and Bereavement Counselling

Is there a "normal" timeline for grief?
No — grief looks different for everyone and doesn't move in a straight line. SFCT's approach is to meet you where you are, not measure you against a fixed timeline.

Crisis & Safety Information

Does SFCT provide emergency crisis support?
No. SFCT does not provide emergency crisis or suicide intervention. If you're in immediate danger, please contact the emergency and government helplines listed above.
